I have now been 30 years old for just over four days, and to some extent I feel the same, but also a bit different. Can I say that I feel old? No… Not really. I mean…just thinking about the number 30 makes you think…”Wow, that is pretty old,” but then I think about the fact that I am into all of the same things I have been into for years: music, books, movies, etc. Plus, its not like I overnight began to look older; I always looked a bit older than my age. Now, I think that I look pretty darn handsome.
I’ve also started to work out. 3 miles coming up tomorrow at 6:30am. This will be week #3 of this. On what other birthday can I say that I began it with a run? Answer: None.
In any event, it was a very nice weekend. The birthday festivities actually began on Wednesday, when the guys from work took me out to the Buffalo Wing Factory down here in Virginia, where we loaded up on hot and 911 wings and lots of great beer. The next morning, we did the morning run, after which the wings promptly made their exit. I headed over to my buddy Nate’s place on Thursday night (my actual birthday) and we met up with a bunch of guys and went to Lebanese Taverna in Arlington for dinner. As usual, dinner was fantastic, and I even tried out a little of my Arabic on the manager, but I only lasted a few sentences. 🙂
After dinner, we headed over to Guarapo which is a tapas/latin club kindof place that I have eaten at before, but never gone to for drinks. It was cool but not quite as crowded as everyone would have liked, so we headed into the District for the awesome Chi-Cha Lounge, which if you don’t know is a sick salsa club with big comfy couches and great drinks. We closed the Chi-Cha and hung by one of Nate’s friend’s houses until about 3, at which point I decided I best get home to salvage some sleep. Two hours of sleep later, I was on my way to work for a few hours before the flight home at 3.
Friday night was pretty low key. Jen and I had dinner with her brother Cris at the Broadway Grill: Grilled Veggie Sandwich…YUM! Afterwards we hit the Sams Club for supplies for Saturday’s party and ultimately came home to crash. Let me not forget that I also got my birthday present from Jen; a new Fender electric guitar with stand and amplifier…candy apply red, even. woohoo!
Saturday was a huge success. Jen and I hooked up bar-b-q chicken and ribs from Pops, along with this sick red beans and rice with sausage. Many of my closest friends were in attendance for good eat and drink followed by two hours of the finest cosmic bowing in Morris County. Definitely one of the most fun birthdays I have had in ages.
Sunday, my folks came up to have lunch with me and Jen and gave me some great gifts, including a case and car charger for the Pod! I actually got quite a few cool gifts this weekend, which is awesome, but I am not going to be really obnoxious and go through all of them. I will however mention the awesome homemade card that P-Site and Amy made me. Good job guys.
All in all…I’m a bit older, but also a bit wiser. I’m a bit more fit than I was a month ago. I have a good job, great friends, and a fantastic girlfriend, so really what more can I ask for. Not much, I say.
